Simple Homemade Christmas Ornaments
Dried Fruit Ornaments

Simple Homemade Christmas OrnamentsThese simple homemade Christmas ornaments require hardly any time or money; they are truly easy Christmas crafts to make! I love the look of dried fruit ornaments because they are rustic and natural and look at home nestled in the bows of our Christmas tree.

You can expand on the idea of using dried fruit as ornaments and arrange a number of slices to make your own dried fruit wreath - these are so lovely and incredibly inexpensive when compared with conventional wreaths.

As well, all of these homemade ornament ideas would also look pretty decorating the top of a Christmas present or tied to the handles of a gift bag!

To get started, you'll need a cutting board, some fruit and a sharp knife.

Cut your fruit into 1/4" slices.

Arrange your slices onto a food dehydrator to dry. (You can also put them on a baking sheet in your oven on the lowest temperature setting until completely dried. This will also make your house smell lovely!)

Your fruit slices should look like this when they are dried.

Now that you have a number of dried fruit slices, the fun can begin! There are many different ways you can combine the slices to make your own simple homemade Christmas ornaments.

Here's my favorite way: I like to make clove studded orange slices by putting a clove in each section of the orange. Hang by a piece of raffia and you've got a great looking (and smelling) homemade Christmas decoration.

You can also string up the dried fruit slices together with a ribbon and tie some cinnamon sticks at one end.

Here's another take on that same concept, except that I strung cinnamon sticks onto the raffia as well.

Or, you can just keep your ornament simple, pretty and rustic by stringing all of your fruit slices onto one piece of raffia.

Another old-fashioned Christmas ornament idea is to tie a bundle of cinnamon sticks together with ribbon, raffia or a narrow strip of scrap fabric. Place the bundle on a window sill or on the branches of your Christmas tree. So simple and so lovely!

See how easy it is to add a homemade ornament to your Christmas tree? Don't forget that when the Christmas season is done, you can hang your dried fruit ornament outside from a tree branch and allow the birds to pick at it for the rest of the winter - they'll thank you for this treat!
