Old Fashioned Oatmeal Cookie Recipe
This old fashioned oatmeal cookie recipe is great to pass on to someone who doesn't like their cookies too sweet. It's also the first cookie I've ever made that called for milk in the batter...and it really works!
Once you bake up a batch, these cookies are soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside, which, in my humble opinion, is the best kind of texture a cookie can have.
I've tweaked the recipe so that you can give it as a gift in a jar. Of course, there's also a free pdf of the recipe card that you can download, print off on cardstock and tie onto your jar. Just click here to get your free 4" x 6" recipe card.

Layer these ingredients in your jar
- 1 cup sugar - 1 1/2 cups quick (not instant) oatmeal - 1 cup flour - 2 teaspoons baking powder - 1/8 teaspoon salt
Seal your jar, decorate and attach baking instructions.
Instructions for baking:
- 1/2 cup butter - 1 large egg - 1/4 cup milk - 1 teaspoon vanilla - 1 cup chocolate chips (optional)
Preheat oven to 350F. Cream butter and add in egg, milk and vanilla. Mix well. Add the dry ingredients from your jar and the chocolate chips and mix until the dough comes together. Bake for 12 - 15 minutes until golden brown.
Makes 3 dozen cookies
