Mulled Apple Juice
Yum,Yummy and Yum. That's all I can say about this mulled apple juice.
Aromatic and with just the right amount of spice, I savoured every sip...right down to the last drop. And so did my son as he sat next to me saying, "Yummy! Yummy! This is good!" over and over and over again!
While it's probably one of the more expensive gifts in a jar that you'll make this holiday, it's worth every penny. Don't forget that one small jar of dry ingredients will make at least 15 batches of mulled deliciousness...that's more than enough to last through this holiday season.
Mix together in a bowl:
- approx 100 cloves - approx 100 allspice berries - dried peels from 15 lemons (optional)
Pour the above ingredients into a small jam jar.
- Place 30 cinnamon sticks around the outer edge of the inside of the jar for a rustic look. (If you tip the jar to one side, it makes it easier to put your cinnamon sticks in).
To Serve
Mix 2 cinnamon sticks and 1 tablespoon of the spice mix with 6 cups of apple juice. Add in 1/4 cup of maple syrup. (You can also use 1/4 cup of white sugar instead of maple syrup, but you won't get that wonderful, complex flavour to your drink).
Heat the liquid for 5 - 10 minutes so that it gets hot, but does not boil.
Serve, savour and enjoy.

For this gift, I chose not to decorate the lid of the jar with fabric and ribbon. I think leaving the jar plain suits the old-fashioned and homey taste of this drink.
